Year 12 English Literature Students engaged in an all-day workshop as part of the Asia House Festival of Asian Literature. In the workshop, delivered by Eastside Educational Trust, students explored Asian literature and culture, taking the theme of ‘freedom’ for their own creative writing project. At the end of the session, students, together with the visiting tutor, composed a poem around the theme. To find out more and/or to read the poem, visit the Asia House Schools Programme blog.
On Wednesday 8th May 2013, Year 9 students took part in a Brazilian themed ‘Excel’ day. Eastside Educational Trust, an award-winning arts education charity, visited Kingsbury High School with a team of 12 facilitators to deliver and engage students in high energy and creative activities. Eastside Educational Trust developed the Brazil theme to build on the 2012 Olympic legacy and to encourage students to access Brazilian culture ahead of the Rio 2016 Games.
Students tackled the traditional Brazilian art-forms of Capoeira, Forum Theatre, Samba Dancing, Carnival Arts and Drumming, or explored other Brazilian inspired options including Circus Skills and Beatboxing.
The day culminated in a showcase where students performed their newly learned skills in front of their peers, Eastside Educational Trust facilitators and Kingsbury High School staff. Gail Seres, Creative Programme Manager, Eastside Educational Trust said, “The Eastside team was hugely impressed by Year 9s talent and teamwork and we hope the beats and colours of Brazil continue to provide inspiration over the coming years.”
