Inclusive Futures

On Wednesday 15th June 2016, Kingsbury High School’s Year 9 & 10 students took part in a Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training Programme. The event was organised by former student, Denzel Manyande, Volunteer Coordinator for Inclusive Futures which is part of the Youth Sports Trust; and was led by Sports Coach UK Tutor, George Timotheou.

Students were taught to lead a number of inclusive sports through the Play Unified movement, aimed at ending the injustice, intolerance and inactivity of young people with intellectual disabilities, by building a unified generation through sport.

Students took turns to form human nets in order to play volleyball and seated volleyball.

George said “Once again I was invited back to Kingsbury High School to deliver a session. I always enjoy visiting Brent & Harrow as it’s where I grew up. The staff and students welcome you with a smile and support the delivery so I feel part of the Physical Education team.

“The school has an excellent leadership programme and always fill their courses. The students engage in all activities, one of the students even sang at my request (that’s never happened before).

“The partnership work between Kingsbury High, Denzel and Sports Coach UK is an example for all other organisations to follow.”

The participating students will be using the skills acquired from the workshop to lead an inclusive sports day for students from special need schools in the local area.
