Bank of England Interest Rate Challenge

On Wednesday 21st November 2012 five students, accompanied by Ms. Gorsia and Mr. Irving, took part in the annual Bank of England and The Times Target Two Point Zero Interest Rate Challenge.

Students took on the role of the Monetary Policy Committee to analyse UK and global economic data and their possible impact on inflation and the economic outlook for the UK. Based on this information, students then decided if current economic policy is appropriate or needs to be adjusted to meet the 2.0 inflation target set by the Government. The team had to justify their decision under some thorough questioning from three Bank of England officials.

Students met competitors from several other schools and developed their presentational, analytical and team working skills.
